Why Myrna Driedger Loves Living in Charleswood

Nov 12, 2015

Myrna Driedger, MLA for Charleswood, has lived in the community for over 30 years. While three decades is a long time, things have pretty much stayed the same in the community – "and that's part of the charm", Myrna explains.

She's not just referring to the rural charm of gravel roads and grassy boulevards that dot the area, either. For Myrna, natural beauty, community spirit and dedication to keeping the past alive are the hallmarks of the community. While she has watched Charleswood grow and become stronger year after year, these intrinsic values have never wavered.

From the area's signature green spaces and prairie grasses to the fantastic schools, community centres and clubs, Charleswood is Myrna's ideal family neighbourhood. As RidgeWood West continues to take shape, it's no surprise to Myrna that the opportunity to build a new home in this historic area is appealing to people throughout Winnipeg.

"It's easy to commute to a lot of places from here and there is a strong sense of charm and community," Myrna answers, when asked what will bring people to the area. "I'm hoping that it will draw people here – and I think it will – especially with all of the great services, programs, schools, community centres and kid’s activities right here in Charleswood. The fact that we're a little bit country and a little bit city will appeal to people who want to move out here and have that feeling without being far from everything."

In 2014, Myrna penned an article in The Metro titled "Why I Love Living in Charleswood". If you have a subscription to the Winnipeg Free Press, read the full article and learn more about what makes this unique community special to Myrna.

As families move into RidgeWood West, we look forward to our community being a part of this rich history and the continuing evolution of one of Winnipeg’s favorite neighbourhoods!
